Having followed the Giants for a feeble 6 years or so i couldn't then - and don't now see why people still chant "Fartown"
I mean the team is neither called Fartown, trains in Fartown or even plays at Fartown. In reality i might as well shout "Kirklees"

So just wondering why people shout it and not "Giants/Huddersfield" - The actual name of the team.

Not many Rhinos in Leeds either lol
Think it's just a tradition that's carried on really shouting Fartown. We do shout Giants at times.

Fartown is the traditional nickname and will be for most current supporters. no doubt it will eventually 'die' with newer generations. But not yet please.

Giants is only a recent moniker and as I see it a marketing name used by modern day clubs.

Well - Id like to say what i think shouting Fartown is (heres a clue to keep within the rules) 'for some reason kids seem to use this word to describe everything that is a bit - wierd/camp/non masculine'

But i was only wondering Wink

The nickname of HRLFC going back to the very beginning was The Fartowners simple as that.

Yeah i get that, but then wouldn't we call a radio a wireless?

Things change and not a single player for us now or even in the last however many years has anything to do with Fartown.

Not only that but from what i know (and please correct me if im wrong) but the Giants have always been called Huddersfield RLFC and never Fartown RLFC.

So i don't get the direct relevance?

Fartown has been associated with Huddersfield.RLFC. for around a 100 years. Thats a lot of tradition, and they have played there for all that time. I am 65 and I remember my Granddad and Uncles saying they were going to watch Fartown when I was a youngster.
No doubt it will eventually die out, but my Son and Grandson chant it now and my Grandson will not have been to Fartown.
Anyway long may the tradition carry on.

I don't know how true this is, but apparently there was a meeting that Richard Lewis was in attendance and one of the people there was referring to a team called Fartown and Richard Lewis had to ask who he was talking about.

Still to most fans of the game Fartown is well known nickname for us. History of the game and our club should be important and whilst we chant it, people will ask why and then learn a little more about the history of their club/sport.

i still call the team FARTOWN and always get the name fartown printed on back of my rugby shirts .. just look at my tipping comp, most weeks it will say fartown versus , rather than giants

the away shirt from 94/95 even had fartown printed on the back as standard.. the black millgate one

I often refer to them as the Giants now , but i do have to remind myself to do it ,Calling them Fartown comes a lot easier, I still tend to think of Bradford as northern, even though the Bulls has probably been the biggest success of all the new names, I guess after best part of 60 years, they will always be Fartown to me.

I definately call them Fartown over Giants or Huddersfield. Don't really know why, I've just grown up hearing it.

Huddersfield have never been officially called Huddersfield RLFC
From memory they were formed in 1864 as Huddersfield Athletic club
they played at Rifle Field, which was somewhere off Trinity Street, l think where the top of Greenhead park is today, about 14 years later they amalgamated with St Johns Cricket Club, in Birkby (Fartown) they were then Known as Huddersfield Cricket, and Athletic Club, this was the case right up to leaving Fartown, l have the programme,s to prove it, l don,t know what the official title is today, what with administration, mergers, rebranding etc. l would be interested to know.
