Skando out for season

Huddersfield Giants expect to be without veteran forward John Skandalis for the rest of the season.

The 32-year-old former Wests Tigers prop sustained an injury to his knee in training and yesterday underwent surgery.

“It really isn’t looking very good for John,” said joint caretaker coach Keiron Purtill.

“We’re waiting for the specialist to get back to us so we know exactly how much damage there is but he has already been told it’s highly unlikely he’ll play again this season.”

The Giants will also be without fellow front rower Eorl Crabtree for up to a month with a fractured finger sustained in Sunday’s 46-16 at St Helens but hope to have Paul Jackson back in his place for the visit of Bradford Bulls on Sunday.

Huddersfield captain Chris Thorman has also declared himself fit after missing the last two games with an ankle injury and stand-off Kevin Brown is available after completing a two-match ban.

That's bad news about Skando and I wonder if we've seen the last of him in a claret and gold shirt?

If it is, then he will take some replacing as he's probably been our most consistent performer in the pack since he arrived.

In Examiner he said it might be as he thinks he will be moving on

Today in RLE said he might take up a coaching role at Wests, just have to wait and see.

I would be sorry to lose Skando, he has been a good buy for the club, but on the other hand he is getting on a little now and could find another season in SL a big ask.

I agree with that, maybe he is also worried about his knees too?
he would not want to end up hardly walking about, as he has his kids to think of.
