Been talking to a few fans and they are planning to get the south stand into a party atmosphere, win or lose! So get your claret and gold tutus, inflatables, beach balls and make as much noise as you can! I will be bringing claret and gold face paint with me on the day so if you see me, feel free to come get painted Smile

Looks like we're going to have wire fans celebrating with us as part of our ticket allocation has been sent over the pennines to them and unless we start shifting some very soon they'll being getting a lot more. Really pissed off we can't take 4000 plus fans to a cup semi final such a short distance away.
Some "supporters " should hang their heads in shame, a very poor turnout by our fans looks on the cards again.

I can't believe we can't see tickets for the semi final. If we win I bet we will struggle to sell 10k for the final. It really is a sign of how family finances are so tight. I dread to wonder how low our crowds will be if the club put season ticket prices up by much.

Exactly Matt

See my post on another topic

Cheaper tickets to try and achieve 10000 average --hasnt clinched it

Dearer tickets (do we then go the opposite way??

Sadly even the keenest supporters havent all got watching a "nearly " team at the top of their priorities !
Thougn it pains me to say it YET again --I need to be using the tin of Duraglit before it dries up!

and if we do get one --I`ll keep it shiny for free!! Thats a promse!! Smile

In the unlikely event that we do the seemingly impossible and beat Wire won't it be fun seeing so many miserable faces in amongst us.

The fans that are going will be the singers I would imagine so we can still make ourselves heard loud and proud!

I just dont get what people gain from saying stuff like this, every forum ive been on Giants fans are bickering at each other about support saying you are not a true supporter cos you aren't going to the semi but I'm sorry I personally wont take that. Some of us cant afford to go to games. So are we bad supporters cos money is an issue?

Hang your head in shame, You could surely do without something to allow you to go, Forget about these very well paid players who have been turning out miserable performances for whatever reason ( probably not entirely their Fault ) I am not going to Salford, not because i can't afford or because i have anything urgent to stop me, But simply because If commitment to the shirt, and the will to win and play for the full 80 minutes that has been on show is the best they can do, then the best i can do is wish them well in the semi and hope they can pull something out of the bag, I don't feel anything remotely like shame. When they get back to playing like highly paid professionals again, i may well start to put myself about again.

You're easily rattled Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes don't take things so personal Surprised Surprised Surprised
By the looks of the ticket sales I'd say the majority of our "fans" will be sat on their arses watching the semi on the tele. Has anyone called you a "bad" supporter, or claimed to be a "better supporter" than anyone else Shocked Shocked Shocked I fully understand and sympathize with people who would like to attend but can't because of finances/work etc, but some folk just can't be arsed.

Looking like we could be outnumbered 3 to 1 in the stands over at Salford. The level of Warrington support and the noise they create could be like a 6 point start to their team.

Fair play to their fans,if they win they deserve to party hard for turning out in such good numbers.

For our players it will be backs to the wall stuff with few expecting us to come through.

Me I'm looking forward to the day out already.

This topic about support for the giants away ( or home for that matter ), has been done over and over " once just recently" It's exactly in the same vein as the Fans of many other clubs continually bagging Giants fans for not having the best support in super league, I read a post yesterday where it was the Giants fault for the low crowd at the Exiles game, What with the game being started here , us being given a £1.oooooo from Sheffield, having a sugar daddy and all the rest of it, we should be kicked out of Super league.

Will people not understand that some people live and breathe the Giants, I know plenty of people like that, I was like that myself for more years than i care to remember, I have been to Semi finals all over Yorkshire and Lancashire, CCup, Yorkshire Cup, Floodlit Cup you name them,

Alternately there are people who like Rugby league, but It's not the top of their pecking order, they have other things to do with their time and money, and some don't have the money to be able to go to all matches, none of this is anything to be ashamed of IMO.

I really hope the Giants can pull off some sort of game to beat Warrington and they get to Wembley, If they do I will be there to watch them, I've been 8 times since 1953 so why not again, and there would be plenty more go who haven't been to a match all season, So what! their money is as good as anyones elses and K Davy wont care who it came from.

Maybe we can just accept from now on that people are free to do what they want with their own time and money, I reckon Huddersfield fans get enough stick" from fans of other clubs".

Hope you're armchair for the semi is a comfy one, and it's heartwarming to see you'll manage to get yourself to the final if we get there. Hope you enjoy the match. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I'd have thought someone with over 1500 posts on here and who obviously has a lot to say about Fartown might just forget about our recent form and get over to Salford to support the lads in a what is a massive match for the club. Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Latest news is some Wire fans have now been given tickets not sold by our club for the south stand at Salford, that is the small terrace stand behind the sticks that was originally allocated to the Giants fans.

By my reckoning that probably means our club have sold about 2000 tickets only. Not having a pop at anyone on here especially but you have to say that really is very poor support from this town.

If you think about it £33 is the total outlay for the day out,£18 entry and £15 official supporters coach travel, you could even pack your own flask of tea or bottle of coke & sandwiches to save yourself money. If you are in work then £33 surely does not break the bank .The money saved on the cheapo ST's generously donated by Sir Ken easy leaves the £33 to spend to watch your heroes in a major semi final.

I agree with what you posted earlier, for all the excuses, the bottom line is too many just can't be arsed travelling the few miles to Salford.

I hope they lose the TV signal in Huddersfield for 80 minutes on the day, will serve them right.

PostSubject: Re: south stand at semi final   south stand at semi final EmptyFri Jul 06, 2012 9:53 pm

Whilst I`ll be there and dont come within your job description DL -let me just point out a few TINY LITTLE mitigating circumstances you may consider before having a downer on purely anyone

Yes it is on some contexys disappointing but there is often the "other side" of the coin that maybe us old buggers consider are worth takng into account

1 I know someone , with a uni degree who was made redundant and had a season ticket
He was sending out CV`s like Ponners torn up paper for 18 months
He hadnt arrived in a trailer from france so who was granted the wholesome benefit of approx £65-00 a week !!
He would prefer to go to Wembley if we get there than the semi --it may be the only time he sees them win there if me and Bo are owt to go by !!
That could be you --think about it !!

2 You say KD and the players must despair !
The players first
They are in sport --an entertainment "industry" now whether like me you dont like it --or the opposite
So are the London theatres and if the show doesnt entertain --it closes SIMPLES!
Sport -though entertainment -is I accept slightly different
It has the backup plan that its your team that you "support" through good times and bad -- and will maintain your allegiance to
Thats what happened when we were in dire straights --and yes me Bo and others soldiered on then just like the faithful sensible Bulls fans who have been slagged off by many Giants fans but contributed money in the hope it would save them!!
Thats worth a medal cos many will have donated -proportionately- more than the club directors ! And where has it got them ?
Similarly turn the page
Dont wanna blow trumpets but since youre presenting a case - Ill counter
Ive been turning up and paying out for 64 seasons
Many many times with this club I still strongly support it has cost me money to suffer despair
In todays game the players receive I would suggest reasonable "contracts" to do what they enjoy so respectfully the pay packet should soften any despair they suffer by not performing
Me and others work to get an income to provide support for their families --and dont always enjoy what we`re doing
In todays economic climate more than ever they bite their tongue and get on with it as "its a job"- and there may not be another
Those with lower incomes / OAP`s / and the jobless may consider the priorities are above "a pint""-- " a flutter" and maybe have to scrap any thought of hols !! So the trip to away matches could be down the list
Think carefully --that too could be you ! I hope not
But I respectfully suggest it wont be our 1st team players

then lets have a look at KD who I gratefully acknowledged has alongside other predecessors kept this club in existence
I fully respect and applaud his contribution -and sincerely wont belittle it one iota

But I will point out to you that -but for the staunch efforts of others with far less funds who strove proportionately just to help this club survive --he wouldnt have had much to take over
I would also suggest that errors have been made --but everyone who DOES THINGS makes errors -its only those what sit on there hands dont
Can you really imagine though that if Man UTD knew that Fergy was going to Chelsea or Arsenal he would still be in charge at Old Trafford whilst making signings and decisions that affect his future club??
I find that -I will phrase it "a little surprising" -- dont you ?
And if Saints had still been in the Cup and playing us in the semi..........? Need I say more ?
I also consider -as Ive stated many times - that NB has developed team tactics and individual players No END !
But I also stand by the fact that if its working -and it was --dont try fix it unless injuries or loss of form dictate and then by moving players to different positions than they were signed on for and "learned their trade "
You may disagree -no prob -but you you wont convince me

Finally DL -I respect your views and your enthusiasm and fervour are truly admirable
Mine some 50 years ago were most likely similar

But one final point I would make
You havent been watching as long as me and other old codgers, but if you finally put the seasons under your belt ( and I sincerely hope you do) I think you will suffer a little more despair and disappointments that will hurt far more than "how many are not making the trip to Salford" I really do
And -- if you really mean the fact that if KD hangs his boots up - and yes he will eventually for whatever the reason (pardon the pun) so will you -- I (with no sarcasm intended ) offer a very serious question

Us older fartown fans have seen the club run by committees( Y ES -- and they were successful)
We have seen coaches come / go / succeed and fail
We have seen directors - misguided or otherwise maintain this great clubs longevity
We have seen players work there bloody socks off and suffer career finishing injuries
So I respectfully request you dont play down KD`s predecessors by letting his "shadow" diminish their efforts !--or is it really the "CLUB" you support --or.........

No problem with you holding your opinion steadfast --but just a few things you might consider
There are even more than 2 sides (at least) to every story - believe me !!

Take it from this old b........................!!! Wink

Topics like this come up all the time because it is important. Without more people attending Fartown games the club depends massively on the directors money. For many reasons people will not go to games, but the club need to figure out how to get people more interested and more passionate. Yes times are hard, yes form is not great, but Wigan got fantastic crowds when they were bottom of super league a few seasons back. If fans don't want to go to games, other fans haranguing them is not going to change their minds. The club need to look more closely on how they can convince them it is worth parting with their time and cash.

Two top posts from PG and Matt, and you are absolutely right Matt ,People can harangue me till Hell freezers over, if i never go to watch Fartown ever again I have nothing to hang my head about, That wont happen of course because i shall get past the way i feel about the club at the moment, ( I have been here so many times i know the process backwards )

PG makes some very interesting points in his post, some of which appertain to how i see things. K Davy for example is a man i have great respect for,( If anyone cared to trawl through my posts they would find many references demonstrating that fact ) You don't go from Ship Photographer to multi Millionaire with having something about you, but there are things going on as PG says that are truly baffling about the running of the club, I know the bottom line is ,it has nothing to do with me the way the club is run, My roll as a supporter is to pay my money to watch what is on show, and once again like PG says It's up to me to decide weather it's acceptable to me in particular and whether i want to go or not.

Whether it's of any interest to anyone or not i don't know, but the main, reasons i am so disillusioned at the moment are ,1 The continual messing about with the team, Playing people all over the field, a process that has clearly upset the apple cart and resulted in yet another mid season collapse, And once again( as PG says) can anyone on this forum truly See Wigan allowing their coach to carry on at the JJB whilst signing on players and getting Warringtons team in order ,if he was going to be their coach next year, Whats going on ?, and finally who's idea is this big squad half full of average players who rarely get a game, Why offload a player like Lunt to one of your competitors and then sign 2 lesser players to replace him.

The team is so obviously short of a class SO and a big hard Prop, everyone who goes can see it, They are maybe hard to come by but squandering money on endless squad players doesn't help, We have Robbo for example, the smallest man in the team who never shirks a tackle no matter how big the man, by and large he gives his all, Yet apparently he has been given permission to talk to other clubs, Whats going on?.

Like you said Matt , this subject about supporters has been well covered before ,and no doubt will be again, and like i have said before ,if i feel like going I'll go , if i don't i won't.

Thats the pertinent point exactly

Bo and others may be able to afford it --but as he says --at the moment he isnt getting back a good return from the players and coach in form / effort and selection process
And allegiance taken into account --he may think a new wedge or driver may be money better spent on something else he enjoys
His choice 100% and nowt to hang his head about
His critics have quite a way to go to catch up and overtake him
Yes they may be full o beans and bounce at the moment --but in 50 years time.......after suffering as many disappointments and frustration as we HAVE .....??? I wonder !!

Then theres my other example !!
You cant convince anyone to part with cash they aint got --or theyre in hock and going down hill
Their choice again 100% -pain or more pain

Know --each to their own --and survival aint a crime any more than financial suicide

Have always been of the opinion that if certain supporters are unemployed/made redundant through no fault of their own,or having to survive on just the state pension I could well understand why they couldn't make this game, but honestly given the poor ticket sales so far you could be forgiven for thinking 50% of our fan base are £33 away from destitution, and I'm sure that's not the case.I must repeat again, and it's gives me no pleasure in doing so,it is a poor level of support from this town for such an important game. This criticism is not aimed at anyone on here especially,as it's obvious there are a number of very longstanding supporters such as BJ,who have done more than their bit in terms of being there for the club over many years

Yes,you may have guessed I am a big admirer of Ken Davy,as I believe he has given the club and townspeople the chance to watch a Fartown club challenging for honours once again.People go on about the old days, and I've said before I would never belittle anyone from previous eras, but since our last trophy win of 1962 I think there were challenge cup semi final appearances in 1968 & 1971,and that was the lot through approx a 40 year period,so yes I believe KD has done an excellent job pulling the club off it's knees and getting us to a couple of CC finals. Now it's up to the players & staff to finally deliver a trophy.

Anyway,I think the words of Robbie Paul sums up here, what it means to the players to have a large vociferous support at a neutral venue, and even if I as just a fan don't know what I'm on about would have thought as a former star of our game his opinions are extremely valid.
