Fartown, The Barren Years Empty
PostSubject: Fartown, The Barren Years   Fartown, The Barren Years EmptyFri Apr 27, 2012 9:22 am

Painful memories this week as the Centenary Brochure chapter is, suitably numbered 13, “Fartown, The Barren Years, 1981-1990”.

Links to last week’s Examiner article and the Bradford highlights can be found on the homepage.

This week’s Examiner article is here.
[Slightly misleading as I haven’t actually tied Jon Wilkin down to a specific date! He has agreed to speak to us though – for free.]

Next Tuesday (May 1), we shall have Paul Kilbride as our guest down at Turnbridge.
Paul came along last year and made a huge impression with his story.
He was a fit and active RL player until a freak accident left him wheelchair bound. Grit and determination ensured that Paul played RL again, this time in a wheelchair.
Whatever he talks about this time, he will move you.
A tremendous, moving evening can be guaranteed so let’s fill the room with members and guests.

Giant Olympics [as in Reindeer Race Night], Friday 13th July at Turnbridge WMC. Spectators are asked to assemble at 7:30 pm so they can be in their seats for the first event at 8:00 pm.

A reminder that we meet at Turnbridge on home matchdays. I’m usually there a couple of hours before kick off.

It may have been the Barren Years, but that is when I started watching them and have very fond days of watching Bostock, Kenworthy, Senior, Blacker etc...

They were bad years, unfortunately just when I got introduced to Fartown.

Now thanks to Sir Ken Davy we are top of Super League.

There is a Huddersfield Town AFC fan standing as an independent candidate in the upcoming Dalton/Yetton ward on a single issue anti Ken Davy stance, the usual crap about the worthless shares.

Hope any Giants fan in those areas will take the trouble to go out and vote for any other candidate rather than the soccer guy on the massive ego trip.

They may have been bad results and performance wise. I am glad we are
now at the Galpharm and have KD at the helm, however I still enjoyed
those days. The fans you met and spoke to were real rugby league fans.
Trips to Highfield, Whitehaven etc... always had a story, now unless you
go in the right boozers you rarely get chance to chat with decent
opposition fans, it is something I miss, which is why I like our trips
to Wire. Still wouldn't swap our current form for the past in a million
years.
