Giants in England 1st team & new Knights Empty
PostSubject: Giants in England 1st team & new Knights   Giants in England 1st team & new Knights EmptyTue Mar 01, 2011 10:00 am

Taken from BBC:

Coach Steve McNamara selects England squads

England coach Steve McNamara has named a 32-strong elite squad that will form the nucleus of the national team ahead of the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
The squad includes 15 players who were involved in the 2010 Four Nations.
It also includes six players uncapped by England, including Huddersfield's former Scotland captain Danny Brough.
McNamara has also named a new England Knights programme featuring 25 players from 11 Super League clubs who will supplement the pool of players.
The elite squad will meet at regular intervals throughout the year for training and will receive targeted support from national coaches and performance experts in partnership with their clubs.
Among those recalled to the squad are Rob Burrow of Leeds, St Helens stand-off Leon Pryce and Warrington half-back Richie Myler.
But there is no place for Pryce's clubmate Kyle Eastmond who is being strongly linked with a move to rugby union side Bath.

Brough, who skippered Scotland in the 2008 World Cup, and played for them in last autumn's European Cup, is in good form for his Huddersfield Giants side.
Others newcomers include Leeds full-back Ben Jones Bishop, Wigan prop Paul Prescott, who previously played for Ireland, and 20-year-old Hull KR prop Liam Watts, who is joined by team-mate Kris Welham.
But Ryan Atkins of Warrington and Wigan's Darrell Goulding, who both played in last year's Four Nations, have been dropped to the Knights squad.
"These are two very exciting squads whose participation in the programmes we are putting together will help us realise our ambition to win the Rugby League World Cup in 2013," said McNamara.
"There is a terrific blend of youth and experience in the squad and I'm sure all the players involved, especially the younger element, will benefit from working alongside each other over the months and years to come.
"Both programmes are designed to create enhanced player development and while some players will not be involved in the World Cup come 2013, there are players in both squads who we fully expect will feature in that tournament and the World Cup in 2017."
Both squads will get together for the first time next week for the first of three two-day camps scheduled for 2011.
Negotiations are underway with possible international opposition for the Knights in 2011 whilst England will face Australia, New Zealand and Wales in the end-of-season Four Nations tournament as well as a mid-season international in June.

England Elite Training Squad: Chris Bridge, Ben Harrison, Adrian Morley, Richard Myler, Ben Westwood (all Warrington); Tom Briscoe (Hull FC); Peter Fox, Liam Watts, Kris Welham (all Hull KR); Rob Burrow, Ryan Hall, Ben Jones-Bishop, Danny McGuire, Jamie Peacock, Kevin Sinfield (all Leeds Rhinos); Danny Brough, Eorl Crabtree, Leroy Cudjoe, Luke Robinson (all Huddersfield Giants); Michael McIlorum, Paul Prescott, Sam Tomkins, Joel Tomkins, Sean O'Loughlin (all Wigan Warriors); James Graham, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Leon Pryce, James Roby, Michael Shenton, Jon Wilkin (all St Helens); Tony Clubb (Harlequins); Brett Ferres (Castleford Tigers).

England Knights: Joe Arundel, John Walker (both Castleford Tigers); Ryan Atkins, Chris Riley (both Warrington Wolves); Jodie Broughton, Stefan Ratchford, Matty Smith (all Salford City Reds); Josh Charnley, Liam Farrell, Darrell Goulding, Stefan Marsh, Lee Mossop (all Wigan Warriors); Paul Clough, Jonathan Lomax, Scott Moore (all St Helens); James Donaldson, Elliott Whitehead (both Bradford Bulls); Dale Ferguson, Michael Lawrence, Jermaine McGilvray, Larne Patrick, Shaun Lunt (all Huddersfield Giants); Luke Gale (Harlequins), Kallum Watkins (Leeds); Joe Westerman (Hull FC).

Saw Mcnamara arriving at the ground on Sunday. Wondered why he was there so early in the season and now I know!

Then he needs to make more chances. Our forwards are awesome at the moment and our backs need to take advantage of that.

Don't think brown is playing England RL worthy anyway.

Negatives

Not enough creativity
Not fast enough
Not good enough in attack

Positives

Defence

Still think he's a good stand-off but not good enough to play for England

He can't be far off. His defence is great, he has good hands, runs hard and is not bad at kicking close to the line. Its just that he is not quite clicking perfectly with the three quarters at the moment.

And his passes are slightly too late.

Other than that 4 games been played plenty of time for him to improve.

That one was fine but some were too flat and caused knock-ons.
