- Huddersfield Giants stand-off Kevin Brown has been told he will not need a knee reconstruction.
The 24-year-old former Wigan Warriors player injured his knee in the early stages of Saturday's Carnegie Challenge Cup final defeat by Warrington Wolves and feared a lengthy lay-off with cruciate ligament damage.
His medial ligament is torn and, as expected, that will rule him out for the rest of the season but scans have revealed there is no further damage.
The Giants, who need a point from their last two engage Super League games to clinch a first top-four finish, are already without second rower Danny Kirmond for the start of next season after he was told he needs a knee re-construction.
"The news on Kev is as good as we could have hoped," said Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown.
"We won't see him again this season but at least we know there's no cruciate ligament damage and that it's nowhere near as bad as it is for Danny."
As well as Brown, Huddersfield will be without skipper Brett Hodgson, centre Jamahl Lolesi and prop Darrell Griffin for the visit to Celtic Crusaders tomorrow.
