Ganson to ref final

Steve Ganson has been appointed as referee for the 2009 Carnegie Challenge Cup Final between Huddersfield Giants and Warrington Wolves at Wembley on Saturday.

The match will be the third Challenge Cup Final for the 39-year-old, who also officiated in the 2008 Wembley final between St Helens and Hull FC and the 2005 final between Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC at Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.

“I feel very privileged to be given the opportunity to referee the final and am looking forward to Wembley immensely,” said Ganson.

“During my career I have refereed in many big games, including internationals, Grand Finals and World Club Challenges, but the Challenge Cup Final is something special.

“Like many people, some of my earliest of Rugby League involve Wembley and I know how important this fixture is.

“What is also important is that as a team of match officials we all go out there on Saturday and put in a good performance.”

The touch-judges at Wembley will be Tony Martin and Clint Sharrad, the video referee will be Phil Bentham and the match commissioner Dave Campbell.

The reserve referee is Richard Silverwood with Richard Cowling is the reserve touch-judge.

Would we have been happy with any of the refs that could've done it! TBH I would've liked someone different than Ganson only because he got the final last year.

Ganson hasn't been the worst ref this season tbh.

They are all absolute pants so any of em are garbage.

If he is consistent then thats all we can ask. If we play as we can then he won't be required.

Good morning Mr Cummins – its really makes us laugh
Organise the referees – you couldn’t run a bath
Week in week out – its status quo – and life goes on the same
One eyed flawed decisions that often swing the game
A “name” team up against “the rest” and stuggling hard to score
All of a sudden – lo and behold -Lets give 6 tackles more
A fumble that goes forward ? – back -A clear rip out – loose carry
Not rocket science – you could employ - any Tom Dick or Harry
One that goes back quite clearly from a high ball – hard to catch
And its “knock on “- possession lost And soon game set and match
They went full time cos it was said that way they would improve
Watching some of them each week they find it hard to move
They get downgraded for messing up?-That doesn’t ring true because
Its soon forgotten and they get A holiday in Oz!!
10 yards? – its often 9 and 8 And sometimes even less
And who gets the dispensation Its not so hard to guess
A slightly dubious tackle – they put it on report
But “go on - take his head off Jim !!”-Its Ok – its just sport-
Seconds to run – Exciting game (I`m not saying “It’s a fix” )-
But hang on – They can sort it out- “Penalty” – in front o sticks
So get your act together all fans would like to see
The same approach to both sides
A little CONSISTENCY?? (please?)
Apply the rules the same both ways - otherwise you make a farce
Of what we call the greatest game -so get up off your …………………….chair ?
Get it sorted – you and them and earn yer bloody money
Cos from OUR viewpoint in the stands - It isnt even funny!

Ganson will be too busy preening himself in front of the cameras to worry about the game.
Quite often he lets the big games flow and the games don't come much bigger than this one.
