Thank heaven that's over, I thought we had already hit bottom but tonight they went to a new low. That was a total embarrassment and just about the most inept exhibition of tackling i have seen for a long time, They would be more aptly named if they were called the Huddersfield Cuddler's, cause that's exactly how they go about putting the opposition down, Usually in three's , On just about every tackle with three men hanging on the opposition make another five yards, and then still manage to get the ball away, one Hull player tonight hopped forward 5 yds on one leg with 3 Giants hold of him ,and yet we have no forwards other than Eorl and Chan that can do anything similar, They are Pussy Cat's and Pussy Cats win nothing, If Anderson can not put a bit more iron in them than that ,then he is not the man for the job, I know he doesn't have a great deal to work with Prop wise but it's not just the Props, The whole team tackle like girls, Hull humiliated them tonight and Hull are not a great side by any means, Grix just leaves me lost for words, and he's not the only one, we have maybe 8 players who are good enough, the rest are championship level.

Hopefully half that squad will be on their way over the winter, and to anyone who is thinking about getting a season ticket for next season, all i can say is good luck. I'll maybe get another when someone can get them to play like Rugby players rather than Netball players.
I felt sorry for Eorl tonight because although he is another one who despite his size doesn't knock the opposition down, he still gets through a huge amount of work, He deserves to be in a better side than he is and if he were to go to one of the quality sides he would be a far better player and would no doubt win things as well.

It all proves one thing! That you need a big strong pack who don't get a good hiding every week, Yes you can surprise people with speed till the teams work it out, then they will just start knocking you about and your halves might just as well sit in the stand for all the chance they have.

To sum up , Thank the Lord the seasons over, we can look forward to a winter of the Examiner printing tripe about how we are going to set the league on fire again next year.

I think we all feel a bit like that just now Bo. Last night was all the more disappointing after last weeks fleeting glimpse of what these players can do. The most disheartening thing was how the players reacted to adversity. We did get a few calls against us in the first 15-20 minutes, but instead of a focus on what they could control and methodically turning the game around (which they were more than capable of doing), it was toys out the pram everyone or anyone else's fault mentality and so went our chances.

I agree, we need a much bigger pack. As for Grix - I think he is the least of our problems, yes he has been exposed defending in the line because of our lack of size, he defends ok at full back though. Going forward he has made mistakes but these have been trying to do positive things on the back foot with little support. Get some grunt, get on the front foot and Grix will prove a decent player imo.

The thing is though Giantdee, Grix is just symptomatic of half the squad ,He is a half decent fullback on a good day who can fill in at stand off, In a good side he wouldn't get the full back birth and that's his best position, as a SO he wouldn't be in the reckoning at all, interchanging with Cudjo as part of some master plan is just not going to work for very long, it is sussed out quickly, and as a friend of mine said to me does Brough no who he is playing with half the time..
Paul Anderson has said Hull won because they were more aggressive and enthusiastic than us, Well i have news for him every team in the league is more aggressive and enthusiastic than us, and what's more IMO we are the worst team in the league at tackling, for the last 3 months or so our pack has got beaten up in every game almost, because they have no aggression, they have no desire to knock the other man down or push him backwards, they are quite happy to be dragged along till he runs out of steam, there are a couple of exemptions, Brough being one, he may not get to every tackle but he does his damndest to put them on the floor when he does, rather than dancing along at the side of them. Our backs are pulled so far out of position many times that they never even lay a hand on the opposition.

Don't know if you watched the Saints Wolves game on Sat but that was league played at a different level to what the Giants are capable of, That was two sides prepared to give the last drop of everything they had for the cause, and even though the loser had another chance they still gave their everything , that's how badly they wanted to win,

Contrast that with our team who never stop telling us how badly they want to win, how badly they want to put it right and how well they have trained and how they can't wait for the next match, In fact they play a great game in the Examiner, It's just on the field they fall to pieces, It's interesting to note that the week before when we played Leeds they put on a good performance, there was absolutely nothing at stake, It made no difference whether we won or lost, This week when everything was on the line they went like Lambs to the slaughter and were duly butchered.

Anyway if they are thinking of going into next season with the majority of that squad, Heaven help them, If they don't get some quality from somewhere it will be just more of the same, and in front of a lot less people. It was nice early season to watch the backs play nice flowing football shame it couldn't last but with a pack full of Hookers they were always going to be found out. The thing is that you can coach quality into real class sometimes ,(As NB showed) But you can't put natural aggression where there is none , you can't put the burning will to win there, It has to be there to start with, and as we saw at Hull these are the very things that the Giants do not have, The face of Ken Davy on TV said it all.

The season is over and as others have said there was some promise and belief after the Leeds game, but that Hull performance was back to the bad days we've been getting all too used to. Anderson can't seem to get these players to play for him. Will he be able to turn it around in the off season? Will a few new faces and a few absent ones be enough to make sure next season is a success? Unfortunately I have my doubts.

You are not alone in you're doubts Matt and I'm pretty sure that will be reflected in season ticket sales, I know he has to be given a chance but if it goes wrong i truly believe it could be the end of Fartowns attempt to be a serious contender, I desperately hope I'm wrong but i feel they have blown it.
