As mentioned on real radio sunday night, in a world where there are more than enough personnel to choose from to carry out a job that everyone is qualified for, it would be easy to replace a poor performer with someone else. unfortunately in our beloved game, apparently there are only 6 full time qualifed refs. And seeing as though there are usually 6 games per weekend it seems awkward to dispose of one. The only one who occasionally takes command (due to illness or whatever) is Ronnie Laughton and i wouldnt let him ref a mini mods match, let alone superleague. So for now it looks like we have to be content with the appalling standards that we are seeing week in week out. Perhaps it will eventually be down to the head coach of EVERY team in the comp to go to the rfl, (although Mr Lewis doesn't always seem interested) with complaint about the standard of reffing and strive to get things changed i.e the removal of Stuart Cummings. As things stand at the moment there are no incentives for any of the refs to change or improve, if a player commits a bad (not necessarily malitious) foul he could be faced with a ban and a fine, what about a ref who allows two play and a try? Oh well, we'll see tomorrow.
